PETS

Pets

To make your journey with SmartLynx Airlines as pleasant as possible for both you and your pet, we have put together some important advice for you here.

Passengers travelling with an animal must read the import and export regulations for animal transportation to their desired destination and must comply with all animal welfare provisions before booking their flight. This information may be obtained from the relevant country’s consulate. The passenger must obtain all documents, including import, export, transit documents and health and vaccination certificates required for the pet’s transportation.

SmartLynx Airlines accepts pets such as cats and small dogs for carriage in the cabin. Rodents and reptiles are not accepted in the passenger cabin. Pets exceeding 8 kg are not accepted as baggage and must be sent as cargo, if available.

Pets

If you intend to take a pet along with you on the flight, you must always declare this when you make your trip reservation, so that we can confirm that there is still space available in the animal quota. The reservation for the passenger and the accompanying pet must therefore be made at the same time through SmartLynx Airlines or a travel agency. The measurements of the transportation cage, bag or box, as well as the total weight of the animal and box must also be given at the time of your travel reservation.

Important! Only a certain number of pets are allowed on each flight. If the number of pets exceeds the quota on a particular flight, or if the aircraft configuration does not allow for animal transportation, the airline can refuse transportation. PETS are not allowed to be seated on the 1st row and on emergency exit rows.

Pet Passport

Pet Passport

From October 1, 2004, all dogs, cats and ferrets travelling on the same flight with the owner within the EU must be identifiable by a microchip or a clearly readable tattoo. In addition, the animals are to be accompanied by a pet passport. The passport should include certification of anti-rabies vaccinations and information concerning the health status of the animal.

Preparing the Pet for Transportation

The pet should be familiarized with the transportation box at the latest several days before the flight. It is a good idea to place a blanket with a familiar smell in the box. It is recommended to feed the pet lightly, as most pets are house-trained and do not want to spoil their bedding.

Pets are generally good travelers and do not need to be pacified with medication. The special permission of the airline is always required for the transportation of pets in the cabin. The International Air Transport Association IATA has laid down precise conditions (Live Animal Regulations) by which the air transport of animals can be approved, and these regulations are adhered to by SmartLynx Airlines. Most pet shops and kennels sell boxes that conform to the IATA's conditions for the transport of animals.

Pets in the Cabin

Small dogs and cats can be carried in the cabin on flights. The total weight of the pet and the transportation cage, bag or box must not exceed 8 kg and the maximum dimensions for the transportation box are the same as for hand baggage (55*45*25 cm) to ensure that it fits under the seat in all of our aircraft.

The airline has the right to refuse transportation if the transportation bag, box or cage is too big for transportation in the cabin or if the animal is too big for the box or bag.

One passenger can only have one transportation box or bag because it must fit under the seat in front of the passenger during the entire journey. As an exception, if the household has several pets, they may travel in one box/bag, provided the total weight does not exceed 8kg and box/bag size 55*45*25 cm.

Important! The animal must fully remain in the box/bag, on the floor, throughout the entire journey. A soft bag is easier to fit under the seat than a hard box. The bag must be made specifically for pet transportation, and it must be leak-proof.
