History

1992

Founded in 1992 (as Latcharter Airlines). The first airline to provide package holidays from Riga, well equipped to provide for sports, events, concerts, governmental, military, and executive charter flights.

1996

The second largest local carrier and fleet owner.

2000

Addition of two YAK-42D aircraft to the fleet and full introduction of the JAR requirements. Nine regular holiday destinations. Beginning of wet lease.

2003

Introduction of A320-200 and addition of a second A320-200.

2006

Acquisition by Loftleidir Icelandic of Icelandair Group. Enters to the worldwide ACMI market.

2007

Acquisition of five more A320-200 and two B767-300.

2008

Rebranding and change of name to SmartLynx. Smart and reliable solutions within a business to business niche market represented by a wildcat specific to Latvia.

2012

Management takeover of SmartLynx resulting in a change of ownership of the company. Although the connection with Loftleidir remains, SmartLynx is an independent entity. Establishment of subsidiary SmartLynx Airlines Estonia.

2016

A Netherlands-based investment fund becomes the owner of the company. SmartLynx aims to enlarge its fleet by 1-2 airplanes each year and expand the geography of its operations beyond Europe to Asia.

2019

New office building as an addition to existing one in Riga headquarters. 1100m2 of modern and collaborative work environment spread over 3 floors. Family member of Avia Solutions Group and establishment of subsidiary SmartLynx Airlines Malta.


2020

CARGO

Expansion of service portfolio with plans for further establishment of company's position in the world of air cargo transportation.  

2021

Addition of the first freighter unit - AIRBUS A321F. One of the most technologically advanced units in its class with the lowest fuel burn – massive 20% lower than the 757 model.

The first AIRBUS A330 joined the fleet as Zero LOPA unit. First steps into the long-haul market.
